How often should I see a dentist for a clean up ?

Most children and adults should see their dentist for regular cleaning and inspection every six months. After the check-up, your dentist will recommend a date for your next visit and consultation with you. Time to next check-up can be as short as three months or as long as two years or up to one years if you are under 18 years.

People at increased risk for oral diseases have dental examinations more than two times a year. Tobacco and alcohol, diabetes, pregnancy, periodontal and gum disease, poor oral hygiene and certain diseases, some of the many factors that your dentist takes into consideration when deciding how often you need your dental cleaning and inspection. If you are used to regular checks-up every six months, you may find it not always the case.

Going into its regular inspections will help your gums and teeth healthy, and early detection of potential problems such as gum disease, and oral cavity cancer. The best way to maintain good oral health is to visit your dentist on a regular basis.

The difference can be longer or shorter than this, depending on how healthy teeth and gums are and your risk of future problems.

Why is it important check-up?

It allows the dentist if you have problems with teeth and helps to keep your mouth healthy. It is best to avoid the problems addressed, or early in the morning. Leaving them could mean that the treatment is difficult in the future.
What happens in each check-up?

At each check-up by your dentist:

* Check your teeth, gums and mouth.
* Ask about your general health and problems you had with the teeth, gums or mouth since your last visit.
* Ask your advice and your food, tobacco and alcohol, and teeth cleaning habits.
* Consult your date for your next visit.

Generally the risk of dental problems increases, if you keep on waiting for the next check-up. This varies in different stages of his life, depending on the condition of your teeth, gums and mouth, or other changes in your health and lifestyle.

What about other medication?

This advice is for a routine check-up only. You may have other appointments for treatments such as fillings, teeth cleaning (scale and polish), closed with a tooth, or for emergency treatment.
